NORTH CAROLINA HISTORICAL ROSTER
1897-1997
The source of the information contained in this
626 page volume comes from the original
applications papers found in the files of the United
Daughters of the Confederacy chapters and in the
North Carolina UDC Archives.

The UDC is an organization that consists of
various chapters of women over sixteen years of
age who are lineal or collateral descendants of men
or women who fought in the War Between the
States.  Listing of the UDC Chapters are given
numerically and by city.

The first members of the UDC were mothers,
grandmothers, wives, sisters, nieces, aunts and
daughters of the Confederate soldiers.  Although
there were no service records, some members
were accepted for their own involvement in the war
effort.  They were employed as spies, organized
and nursed in the hospitals, sewed uniforms,
made material contributions, and in some cases,
donned uniforms and joined the army disguised as
men.

The descendants of these men and women have
continued to guide the noble and outstanding
work of this benevolent organization.

The first part of the roster is an alphabetical listing
of the members of the UDC.  Beside each
member's name is the number of her UDC chapter.
Under her name Confederate ancestor(s) are
listed.

The second part of this reference in an alphabetical
listing of the Confederate ancestors of the UDC
members.  Under each ancestor's name is listed
the service record, the state in which the ancestor
served, and the members who joined under the
ancestor's service record.
