MARY GORRELL RIGGINS (Mrs. Henry Logan Riggins. Charter Member -  Joined
James B. Gordon Chapter  Nov 14, 1898 on the service of her father, Albert B. Gorrell,
Co. D, 57th Reg't NC.  Served as President of James B. Gordon Chapter for 20 years.
Served as 1st VP of the NC Division, and held numerous other offices in the Division.  In
1935 Salem College established a scholarship in her honor.  This scholarship was
awarded annually to a descendant of a Confederate veteran and was known as the
Mary Gorrell-Riggins Confederate Loan Fund.  Mrs. Riggins was largely instrumental in
the erection of the Confederate monument on the courthouse square.
