HIGHPOINT:
PRESTON- Mrs Julia Jackson Christian Preston, 104, of The Presbyterian Home, Inc., died Sunday at the home. [Dec 14,
1991]  She was born June 5, 1887 in San Diego, Calif., daughter of
William Edmund and Julia Thomas Jackson
Christian.
 Her grandparents on her mother's side were GENERAL and Mrs. THOMAS J. (Stonewall) JACKSON.  At 19  
she "ran away" to marry
Edmund Randolph Preston, a young lawyer in Charlotte, son of the minister of First Presbyterian
Church there.  Their romantic escape from her irate father was featured in the
LONDON EXAMINER of 1907.  Survivors
include three daughters,
Mrs. Emil N. (Anna) Shaffner of Fleetwood and Winston-Salem;    Mrs. John S. (Cortlandt)
Creech
of Winston-Salem and Mrs. Julia P. McAfee of Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; one son, Thomas J. Preston of Silver Springs,
Md.; a daughter-in-law,
Mrs. Edmund Randolph Preston, Jr. of San Antonio Texas; 15 grandchildren and 22 great
grandchildren.  A son
Randolph Preston, Jr., died in 1988.  A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in the chapel at
The Presbyterian Home by
Jule Spach, Dr. Julian Lake and Carl Bailey.  The family will greet friends following the service
in the Dallas Living Room at The Presbyterian Home.  Memorials may be directed to STONEWALL JACKSON HOUSE, 8 E.
Washington St., Lexington, VA 24450 or to The Presbyterian Home, Inc., 201 Greensboro Road, High Point, N.C. 27260.

PEPPER, Sallie Fulton, of Summit St., Walnut Cove, died Monday evening at her home from an apparent heart attack.  
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 am at Christ Episcopal Church in Walnut Cove.  Burial will follow in the
Danbury Cemetery.  Mrs. Pepper was born in Stokes County to
Jacob and Nannie [Fulton*]     She was a retired former
Editor and Publisher of The Stokes Record in Danbury, NC.  She and her husband,
Emory P. Pepper, were the founders in
1932 of the paper.  Mrs. Petter is survived by two daughters,
Mrs. Thomas J.C. Smyth of Greensboro, and Mrs. Leonard
VanNoppen
of Danbury; one son, Fred Pepper of Walnut Cove.  Mrs. Pepper was also active in the Episcopal Church and
the D.A.R.  The body is at Burroughs Funeral Home in Walnut Cove.  Memorials may be made to Christ Episcopal Church at
Walnut Cove.
* The obituary stated parents last name as Webster-Pepper which is wrong. The proper surname was inserted.

PETREE, Mrs. Sarah Nancy Norman Petree, 93, 971 Petree Road, died Wednesday morning at  her home.  She was born
in Forsyth County Aug. 17, 1889 to
Julius S. and Regina Conrad Norman.  Mrs. Petree was a lifelong member of Mt. Tabor
United Methodist Church, where she was a member of Fidelis Sunday school class and United Methodist Women.  She was a
member of Forsyth Homemakers Club and United Daughters of the Confederacy, James B. Gordon Chapter.  She taught in
the public schools before her marriage to
Claude Rufus Petree Aug. 7, 1915.  Mr. Petree died Dec. 28, 1971.  Surviving are
four daughters,
Mrs. Ray. A (Norma) Shaver, Wilmington and Mrs. R. Ferdinand (Marjorie) Jones, Mrs. John M (Nelda)
McElrath and Miss Nancy R. Petree
, all of Winston-Salem; one son, Claude Royce Petree, Winston-Salem; eight
grandchildren,
Miss Sarah Norman Jones, Winston-Salem, Jerry L. Shaver, Boston, Ma., Mrs. David H. (Molly) Bland,
Raleigh, Miss
Susan L. Petree, Washington, DC, Miss Phyllis C. Petree, Richmond, VA., Mrs. David C. (Marian) Bell,
Raleigh and Miss Joan Shaver and Miss Plly Shaver, both of Wilmington and one sister, Mrs. C.W. Jones, Winston-
Salem.  Funeral services will be 2 pm Friday at Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church by the Rev. Joe Hauser.  Burial will follow in
the church cemetery.  The body will lie in state 30 minutes before services.  Memorials may be made to Mt. Tabor Church
cemetery trust fund.  The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 pm tonight at Vogler's Reynolda Road Chapel.

WINSTON-SALEM JOURNAL  Oct 20, 1963

PASCHAL, Mrs. Stella Farrow Paschal of 848 Rosley Road, widow of William J. Paschal, will be conducted at 2:30 pm
today at Voglers Chapel by Dr. W. Kenneth Goodson.  Burial will be in Forsyth Memorial Park.  Mrs. Paschal died at 12:45 am
yesterday at  her home.  She had been in declining health many years and seriously ill a month.  She was born in Winston-
Salem to
Thomas L. and Mary Farabee Farrow and spent all her life here.  She was a 1905 graduate of Salem College and
taught in the city schools until her marriage in 1912.  She was a member of Centenary Methodist Church and was formerly
superintendent of the nursery department and a steward in the Women's Society of Christian Service.  She was also a member
of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.  Her husband was the owner of Paschal Mirror Co.  Surviving are two daughters,
Mrs. Paul H. Wofford Jr. of Burlington and Mrs. Fred M. Parrish Jr. of 740 Yorkshire Road and three grandchildren.

PETREE, NANCY REGINA -   Feb. 26, 1932 - June 17, 2011
Miss Nancy Regina Petree, 79, beloved sister and aunt, died Friday, June 17, 2011 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She
was born February 26, 1932 to the late Claude Rufus and Sarah Norman Petree and lived most of her life on Petree Road.
She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from UNC-G (Women's College) and received a Masters degree in mathematics from N.C.
State University. She worked and retired from AT&T (formerly Western Electric) after 35 years. Miss Petree was a life long
member of Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church where she very active as a Board Member, Trustee of the Cemetery Fund and
Sunday School teacher. She was also active in the community as a past president of the James B. Gordon Chapter of the
United Daughters of the Confederacy and Regent of the Old North State Chapter of the Daughters of the American
Revolution. She also was a member of the Winston-Salem Elks Lodge and a Friend of the Reynolda Branch of the public
library. Nancy was an avid reader, historian and collector of books and antiques. She was always a very generous and giving
individual, contributing to many organizations throughout her life; however, she will be most remembered for the love, kindness
and special relationships she had with each of her family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by
a brother, C. Royce Petree and a sister, Norma Petree Shaver. Survivors include two sisters: Marjorie Jones and Nelda
McElrath, both of Winston-Salem, a sister-in-law, Lorene D. Petree, and her nieces and nephew: Sally Jones, Jerry Shaver,
Molly Bland, Susan Petree, Phyllis Petree, Marian Bell, Joan Dyer and Polly Shaver. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.
m. Tuesday, June 21, at Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church with burial to follow. Dr. Earl Wilson and Rev. Gary Mahathey will
officiate. The family will receive friends after the service. Memorials may be made to Mt. Tabor Cemetery Trust Fund, c/o 3543
Robin Hood Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.

PIERCE, Cleo Marie Reese LENOIR, NC - Marie Reese Pierce June 26, 1928 - June 28, 2011 Marie Reese Pierce, 83, of
Lenoir, NC passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Pierce was born June 26, 1928 in
Madison, County, NC to the late Dr. Bernie Eugene Reese and Nola Plemmons Reese. Marie worked for several companies in
Winston-Salem as a secretary and bookkeeper, before retiring from Freeman and Sons. She was very well liked and
respected for her work ethic. She had many loyal friends in Winston-Salem, who will greatly miss her. In addition to her
parents, Marie was preceded in death by her husband, James Franklin "Frank" Pierce. Surviving to cherish her memory are
two brothers; David K. Reese and Jasper B. Reese and wife, Helen all of Lenoir, four nephews, John, Brian, Scott, Eric Reese
and a number of cousins. A Graveside Service will be conducted at 11:00 Saturday, July 2, 2011 at Forsyth Memorial Park
officiated by Rev. Frank Shumate. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel will be assisting the Pierce family. (Published in Winston-
