WINSTON-SALEM JOURNAL

LEIGHT, Mrs. Peggy Bowen, 82, of 131 Avalon Road died Thursday, March 15, 2001 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.  Peggy was born Dec. 24, 1918 in
Winston-Salem to
Jesse Gray and Mabel Douglas Bowen.  She was the wife of the late George Staples Leight.  She attended Winston-Salem public schools and
graduated from Salem College in 1939.  She was a lifelong member of First Christian Church.  Peggy was a homemaker, had an active interest in gardening and in
growing orchids and was a lover of antiques.  She was preceded in death by her father; a son,
William Bowen Leight, in 1963; her husband, George Staples Leight
in 1987; a sister, Sophia Bowen Clay; and a brother, Jesse Gray Bowen Jr.  Surivors include a son Dr. George S. Leight, Jr. and wife Pamela Davis Leight of
Durham; three grand children,
Kristin Louise Leight, Dr. Melanie Ann Leight and William Derek Leight; her  mother, Mabel Douglas Bowen of Winston-Salem; a
sister,
Sara Bowen Gibbs of Gastonia, four sisters-in-law, Marion Davis Bowen of Winston-Salem, Anne Clay of Salisbury, Elaine M. Leight of Winston-Salem and
Annette M. Leight of Walkertown; and two brothers-in-law, Dr. Stuart W. Gibbs of Gastonia and David S. Clay of Salisbury.  A memorial service will be at 2 p.m.
Sunday, March 18, 2001 at First Christian Church by the Rev. James Cobb.  The family will receive friends following the service in Taylor Hall.  Flowers will be accepted;
however, memorials may be made to First Christian Church, 2320 Country Club Road, or Hospice and Palliative CareCenter, Winston-Salem, NC.

LEWIS, Mrs. Winnie Steward Lewis, 91, of Winston-Salem died March 14, 2001 at the Brookridge Baptist Home in Winston-Salem.  Mrs. Lewis was born in Pickens,
SC daughter of the late
James Madison and Bessie Hamilton Stewart.  She was married to the late Ernest Folger "Red" Lewis.  Mrs. Lewis was a charter member of
Trinity Baptist Church.  Surviving are a son,
Dr. David C. Lewis of Abbeville, SC; daughters Martha Kirby of Winston-Salem and Mary Greer of Florence, SC; six
grandchildren, one of whom is
Carol Schroeder of Winston-Salem; and five great-grandchildren.  Services will be conducted 2 pm Saturday March 17 2001 in the
chapel of Seneca Mortuary by Dr. Robert Ferguson.  Interment will be at Oconee Memorial park.

LUMLEY, Mrs. Nancy Frye, 75, passed away Wednesday Aug. 29, 2007.  She was born May 8, 1932, to William Wade Frye Sr and his wife, Stella Gough Frye.  She
lived all her life in Forsyth County and attended Griffith School.  Nancy was a member of Calvary Moravian Church.  Her love of  history led her to genealogy, and she
became a member of the Daughters of the Confederacy, The Daughters of the American Revolution and The Daughters of the American Colonists.  She is survived by
her beloved family, her husband of 56 years,
Mathlan I. Lumley Jr.; a daughter, Martha, and her husband, Dennis G. Rothrock; and a granddaughter, Nancy Jean,
and her husband Tyson D. Hutchens
.  Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday Sept. 1 at Forsyth Memorial Park Mausoleum, with a graveyard burial to
follow.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 31 at Hayworth Miller Silas Creek Chapel  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary
Moravian Church or Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Winston-Salem.

MEMORIAL WRITTEN FOR ROZELIND MARIE LANDQUIST LENTZ
Written by her daughter and entered into the James B. Gordon UDC Minutes Sept. 28, 1974:
My Mother was truly a "First Lady."  She was the first Lady born to
Thomas Eugene and Annie Bost Landquist above the Landquist-Pfohl Drugstor in Salem, NC on
January 11, 1906.
Later she moved to 304 Cedar Avenue and attended Central School and Salem Academy.  She was a member of home Moravian Church.  On May 16, 1922 she joined
the Thomas Jethro Brown Chapter of the Children of the Confederacy on the record of  her grandfather,
John Pehr Landquist*, who fught in the Battle of the
Wilderness.  This certificate was signed by J.W. Leinback and S.W.Cromer.  This Chapter welcomed my mother on Mar. 9, 1974 on the record of
Martin Luther Bost,
her other Grandfather.
While at Salem Academy she met the Reynolds High School fottball stary
"Pearly" Lentz and became his "First Lady" on May 26, 1926.  She was a first Lady of many
things, helping my father in his business world and being our own Winston-Salem's "First Lady".  She did enjoy so much being with people, looking pretty and smiling.  
To me and to  her Grandchildren, she will always be our "First Lady."

Twin City Sentinel , May 10, 1935 - LILLINGTON RITES
Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Smith Lillington, 87, widow of Captain N.W. Lillington, were held at 4 o'clock this afternoon at the home at Panther Creek near Lewisville.
 Rev. V.H. Harrell and Rev. B.M. Boyd were in charge.  Burial followed in the Williams graveyard.  Pallbearers were Andrew and Robert Sutton, John Sharpe Williams,
Lewis Williams, Hollingsworth Williams, Vance Williams, Smith Williams and Charles Phifer.
