WINSTON-SALEM JOURNAL  Jan 18, 1991

HILL, Mrs. Nancy O'Hanlon, 78, of 360 N. Stratford Rd., Winston-Salem, died January 17, 1991.  She was born September 24, 1912 in Winston-Salem and was the daughter
of
Nancy Critz O'Hanlon and Edward W. O'Hanlon.  Her father built the O'Hanlon Building in Winston-Salem, at one time the tallest structure in the state.  Her mother was
the daughter of
Lucy Reynolds Critz, a sister of R.J. Reynolds.  She was married to Charles G. Hill, Jr. who died in 1960.  Her husband was an aviation and radio pioneer
in North Carolina.  She graduated from National Cathedral School and Gunston Hall in Washington, D.C.  Mrs. Hill was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, the
Junior  League, the Twin city Garden Club, Twin City Club and Forsyth Country Club.  She was active in the United Daughters of the Confederacy and was appointed by
Governor  Holshouser to the Board of Directors on the Confederate Widow's Home in Fayetteville.  She served as a Red Cross Volunteer in World War II.  Surviving are a son,
Edward O'Hanlon Hill of Advance; a daughter, Kent Hill Graham of Raleigh and Winston-Salem; six grandchildren, Margaret Hill Pichon of Pau, France; Charles G. Hill
IV
of New Orleans;;  Allison K. Hill of Charlotte; Elizabeth O. Hill and William T. Graham, Jr. both of Winston-Salem and Ashton C. Graham of Harpers Ferry, W. Va. and
two great grandchildren,
Alexander Pichon and Florence Pichon.  The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the home.  Graveside services will be
conducted Sunday, January 20 at 2 p.m. at the Salem Cemetery by Dr. George P. Robinson.  Memorials may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church or to the C.G.
Hill Memorial Park, c/o Forsyth County Parks and Recreation, 680 W. 4th St., Winston-Salem, NC.

HUTCHINSON, Mrs. Louise Whittington, 80, of 731 N. Stratford Rd. died Monday August 1, 1994, at her home.  She was born January 6, 1914 in Marion, Va. to George
Washington and Anna Desmond Whittington.  
She was retired Parish Secretary of St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Raleigh.  She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal
Church and the St. Agatha Circle.  She was also a member of the D.A.R. and the U.D.C.  Mrs. Hutchinson is survived by  her husband,
Richard Motley Hutchinson, Jr., of the
home; a son,
George Whittington Lanford and wife, Barbara S., Greenville, N.C.; three stepsons, Carroll Edgar Lanford and wife, Alice R. , Raleigh, N.C.; Joe Earle
Lanford
and wife, Sally G. Charlotte, N.C.; Donald Bates Lanford and wife, Betty P., Sugar Land, Texas; a stepdaughter, Catherin H. Long and husband, Wade of Winston-
Salem and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.  A memorial service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church by Rev. Thomas Ehrich.  Burial will
follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Greensboro.  Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, the Rector's Discretionary Fund, 520 Summit St., Winston-Salem, NC.

WINSTON-SALEM JOURNAL---Walnut Cove

HEATH, Mrs. Elizabeth Mitchell, 86, of 823 North Main Street, died early Sunday morning at N.C. Baptist Hospital.  She was born in Stokes County to Jerry Luther and
Susie Moorefield Mitchell.
 She was retired from the Stokes County Department of Social Services with 36 years of service.  She was a lifelong member of Walnut Cove
First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Choir, the WMU and former Sunday School Teacher.  Mrs. Heath was a member of the Homemakers Extension Club
for over 50 years and was awarded Mother of the Year in 1970.  She was preceded in death by her  husband,
Dan J. Heath, Sr.  She is survived by two sons, Rev. Dan
Heath, Beauford, S.C., and Robert L. Heath, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; three sisters,
Mrs. Ralph Blum, Winston-Salem, and Mrs. Ruth White, Raleigh.  Mrs. I.G. Ross,
Walnut Cove; two brothers, Martin Luther Mitchell of Walnut Cove and Steadman Mitchell of Cullowhee; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.  Funeral
services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Burroughs Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow in the Walnut Cove Cemetery with Rev. Bill Fryar officiating.  The
family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 and 9 p.m. Tuesday and at other times at the Heath home.  The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials be
made to the Walnut Cove Cemetery Fund.

HOTCHKISS, Mrs. Sallie Smith Williams Hotchkiss, 69, of Panther Creek, Lewisville, died at Forsyth Memorial Hospital Saturday at 4:05 pm.  A Rosary will be at 7 pm
Monday at Vogler's Main Street Chapel.  Funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Leo's Catholic Church 10 am Tuesday.  Interment service will be at
Beetcher and Bennett Funeral Home in New Haven, Connecticut for graveside service at Grove Street Cemetery.  She was born April 1, 1912, in Lewisville to
William
Smith
and Ellen Caroline Johnson Williams, Sr.  Mrs. Hotchkiss graduated from Lewisville High School and St. Genieve-of-the-Pines in Asheville, NC.  She was a
member and past regent of the D.A.R., the Old North State Chapter, and a member of General James B. Gordon U.D.C.  She was also a member of the Women's Auxiliary,
and American Legion Post 55.  Mrs. Hotchkiss was also a member of St. Leo Catholic Church and St. Theresa Guild.  Surviving are her husband,
Joseph Parks

of the  home; two sisters, Mrs. Mary W. McKinney of Mobile, Ala., Mrs. Francis W. Booth of Glendora, Calif; two brothers, Lewis James Williams of Dayton,
Ohio,
J. Lanier Williams of Lewisville.  The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 pm at Vogler's Main Street Chapel.

MEMORIAL TO MRS. SALLIE SMITH WILLIAMS HOTCHKISS

Today we honor the  memory of a loyal, devoted member of our chapter.

Sallie Smith Williams Hotchkiss joined the James B. Gordon Chapter, UDC Nov 6, 1969 on the record of her great uncle, Capt. Charles Ebenezer Smith, Co. C, 14th
Regiment (Anson Guards), NC Troops.  She and her husband Joe were faithful attendants at most all of our chapter meetings and supporters of our chapter activities.

Sallie was born April 1, 1912 in Lewisville to William Smith and Ellen Carolline Johnson Williams.  She died at Forsyth Memorial Hosptial on Saturday July 11, 1981.  
Interment was at Grove Street Cemetery in New Haven, Connecticut.

Mrs Hotchkiss was a descendant of Col. Joseph Williams of Panther Creek, Lewisville and lived at the ancestral home.  Col. Williams came to this area in 1750 and built his
home on a site near the trail Daniel Boone made on his way to Tennessee and Kentucky.  Many distinguished visitors were entertained there.  The original home burned in
1855 but was rebuilt on the original site and the land is still owned by the family.  Col. Williams was in the Revolutionary Army and he campaigned against the Cherokees.  
He was a member of the Provincial Congress in 1775 in Hillsborough.

Surviving are her husband,
Joseph Parks Hotchkiss of the  home; two sisters, Mrs. Mary W. McKinney of Mobile, Ala., Mrs. Francis W. Booth of Glendora, Calif; two
brothers,
Lewis James Williams of Dayton, Ohio, J. Lanier Williams of Lewisville.
