MEMORIAL TO MRS. HAL W. BLACKSTOCK [1909-1976]
Written and presented by Miss Elizabeth Kapp, Chaplain of James B. Gordon United Daughters of Confederacy
Meeting Jan 28, 1977

Mrs. Evelyn Jackson Blackstock was born in Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia, in 1909, the daughter of
Marshall O. and Alma Hough Jackson.  Her mother, Mrs.
Marshall O. Jackson, was a Real Daughter of the Confederacy and was a member of the James B. Gordon Chapter, having transferred from the chapter in Asheville,
North Carolna.

Mrs Evelyn Blackstock joined the James B. Gordon Chapter of the UDC in 1952 on the war record of her maternal grandfather,
Alverson Sanford Hough.  He had
served as prison guard at the Ansonville Prison from April 1864 until the end of the War Between the States.  Private Hough was a member of Company G in the
Second Georgia Infantry.

Mrs. Blackstock was a devoted and loyal member of the James B. Gordon Chapter.  She always gave unstintingly of her capabilities in the performance of various
phases of chapter work, displaying excellence in meticulous details.  With the assistance of Mrs. Gilbert Ashburn, Mrs. Blackstock typed cross-index files in preparation
for the NC Division Recorder of Crosses files.  In this project and in others, she showed qualities of a true historian; and she was left lasting footprints because of work
skillfully done.

After a lengthy illness Mrs. Evelyn Jackson Blackstock died on Thursday, December 9, 1976.  Her funeral service was conducted at Vogler's Reynolda Road Chapel in
Winston-Salem, followed by a graveside service and burial in Lewis Memorial Park in Asheville, NC.

To her husband, Mrs. Hal. W. Blackstock, who survives, and to her two sisters, the James B. Gordon Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy extends
sincere sympathy.  This chapter feels extremely fortunate to have had such a faithful and valuable member as was Mrs. Evelyn Jackson Blackstock.
