ANDREWS, Katherine Holms Goggans, age 102, a 30 year resident of N.C. Baptist Homes, died Wednesday morning at Brookridge Retirement Community.  She was
born August 26, 1895 in Laurens, S.C. the daughter of
Daniel P.Goggans and Mary Elizabeth Anderson Goggans.  She attended Averett College, Danville, Virginia,
and Limestone College, Gaffney, S.C. from which she graduated with a B.A. in music in 1941.  She also studied music in France before beginning a long career in
teaching piano and serving as church organist in several cities.  Mrs. Andrews was an honorary member of the Pioneer Teacher's Forum, Charlotte and a life member of
the Charlotte Music Club.  She was a "Real Daughter" of James B. Gordon Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, her father having served as a Captain
during the Civil War.  She was a member of Ardmore Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband
Francis F. Andrews in 1960.  Surviving is a niece,
Mrs. Mary Parks Kerchberger, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; a nephew Norman A. Greenwood, Charlotte; a nephew, Daniel G. Parks, Manhattan, NY; and several
cousins in South Carolina, Florida and including
Lula A. Alexander and husband William B of Statesville.  A memorial service will be held in the Chapel at Brookridge,
Friday morning at 10:30 with Rev.Paul Riggs officiating.  A graveside service will be held in the City Cemetery, Laurens, S.C. at 4 p.m. Friday with Rev. J. Marion Rector
officiating.  Vogler and Sons Reynolda Road Chapel is handling the arrangements for Mrs. Andrews.

[On Aug 21, 1954 Mrs. Andrews joined the UDC on the service of her father Capt. D.P. goggans, 1st South Carolina.  She was  a Real Daughter of the UDC]

ALLGOOD, Mrs. Carrie May Stockton  97, died peacefully on Thursday, April 12, 2007 at Salemtowne, the Moravian Retirement Community. She was born July 26,
1909 in Old Salem to the
Rev. Ernest Hall Stockton and Minnie Tesh Stockton. Mrs. Allgood graduated from Salem Academy and College and received her Master’s
Degree in Romance Languages from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill followed by study at the Middlebury College School of Spanish. She was a teacher of
foreign languages 37 years (9 years at Salem College and 28 years for the Winston-Salem and Forsyth County Public School Systems). Mrs. Allgood, a lifelong member
of Home Moravian Church, was active in the church as long as her health allowed. She was married on June 15, 1940 to
Robert McKinley Allgood who predeceased
her on July 1, 1984. She was also predeceased by her parents, two brothers and four sisters. Mrs. Allgood is survived by a sister,
Gertrude Stockton Sapp; two nieces:
Mary Elizabeth (Billie) Goslen and husband, Allen, of Winston-Salem and Amelia Stockton Wagner and husband, Larry, of Albemarle; four nephews: Kemp
Plummer Cummings III
of Pinehurst, Aubrey Eugene Sapp and wife, Pat, of Huntsville, AL, Thomas Ernest Cummings and wife, Genevieve, of Charlotte, and
Robert Andrew Sapp and wife, Jo, of Winston-Salem; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. A graveside burial service will be held in Salem Cemetery
at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 16, 2007 by The Reverend Dr. Gerald R. Harris and The Reverend C. Scott Venable III. The family will greet friends in the Ladies Parlor of
Home Moravian Church following the service. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Salem Funeral & Cremation Service is in charge of the
arrangements.

ASHBURN, Sarah Harris Ashburn  of Winston-Salem died Tuesday, Feb 6, 2007 at her home.  Sarah was born in Norfolk, VA to the late V.C. and Lucy Oliver Harris.  
She lived and grew up in Doswell, VA.  She was a graduate of James Madison College.  She moved to Charlottesville, Va where she worked as a social worker and met
and married
James Gilbert Ashburn in 1944.  They moved to Winston-Salem in 1948 where they have remained.  Sarah or "Sally" as she was affectionately known to
her grandchildren, will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother and beloved grandmother.  Sarah was an active member of Highland Presbyterian Church, the
UDC and DAR and enjoyed the local garden and bridge clubs.  Sarah was also a charter member and beloved officer of the Lupus Foundation of America, Winston-Triad
Chapter.  She is survived by her beloved husband,
"Ash" of the home; four children, Carolyn Ashburn and husband Chuck Hearon of Compobello, SC, Lucy Ashburn
of Kernersville,
Jim Ashburn and wife, Hope of Arden and John Ashburn and wife, Shu of Lexington, KY; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.  A 2 p m
memorial service will be conducted Saturday Feb 10 at Highland Presbyterian Church.  The family will receive friends at the reception following the service in the fellowship
hall.

ASHBURN, Mrs. Nonnie Boyles, 85, of 303 Trail 1, Burlington, widow of Arthur Lee Ashburn, died last night at Cherry Grove Beach, S.C., where she was visiting her
daughter.  The body is at Voglers Reynolda Road Funeral Home pending arrangements.  Mrs. Ashburn was born in Surry County to William Jackson and Caroline Stone
Boyles.  She was a member of Reynolda Presbyterian Church, the James B. Gordon Chapter of Daughters of the Confederacy, the Old North State Chapter of the
Daughters of the Aamerican Revolution and Daughters of the American Colonies.  Surviving is a daughter, Mrs Warren Martin of Burlington; and two sons, Gilbert
Ashburn of 714 Finsbury Road and Anderson Ashburn of Tarrytown, NY.  The family requests that memorials be made to the United Daughters of the Confederacy
scholarship fund or to Reynolda Presbyterian Church.

MRS. ALLEN; OPERATED DINING ROOM

Mrs. Viola Sheek Allen, 70, of 235 Avalon Road, NW, widow of O.G. Allen Sr., died at 12:55 pm yesterday at Virginia's Lodge.  She had been in declining health several
years and seriously ill three days.

She was born [Mar 19, 1891] in Davie County to Albert Rites and Mollie Bett Sheek.  She spent her early life in Davie County and moved here in 1917.  She attended
Clemmons Academy.  Mr. Allen, a school teacher and merchant in Mocksville, died in 1958.  Mr. Allen owned and operated a dining room for many years.  She was a
member of Calvary Moravian Church and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.  She was also active in the woman's auxiliary of the church.  Surviving are two sons, R.
Worth Allen of the home and O.G. Allen Jr of 1466 Old town Road; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild; and a brother Frank Sheek of Advance. Rt. 1.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Voglers Chapel by the Rev. William McElveen and the Rev. Truitt Chadwick.  Burial will be in Forsyth Memorial Park.
