U.D.C. MEETING
Yesterday afternoon there was a very full attendance of the local Daughters of the Confederacy at the Elks parlor.  
Considerable business was disposed of.

A very handsome memorial arch, which will form the gateway to the Confederate cemetery at Raleigh, is being
erected by the daughters, each chapter to have in his archway a granite block with names of chapter and date of
presentation on it.  The Winston chapter voted $20, the amount required from each chapter for this purpose.

Also, $1.00 was sent to Columbus, Ohio to help keep up the Confederate cemetery there.

Arrangements were made for 10th of May, the following committees being appointed:

McIver, Mabel Ireland, Bessie Blum, Nettie Lou Blum, Ellie Norfleet, Margaret Hanes, May Barber, Eleanor Follin,

Laurel wreath had been sent during the month.  Mr. W.C. Brown, in Salem, being the veteran who had passed away.

After the business the following charming program was rendered:

Mrs. Charles Norfleet read very effectively "The Death and Burial of General Fitzhugh Lee."

Miss Sallie Griffith gave a beautiful vocal solo, while Miss Mary Wilson Stone played most effectively an exquisite
instrumental selection.

Quite a charming and delightful informal luncheon was given by Mrs. P.H. Hanes, complimentary to  her daughter
Miss Margaret Hanes, and her guests, Misses Fluehart of Ohio, and Swift of Illinois, on last evening. The party
drove out about 5 o'clock to Old Town, where a most delicious lunch was served on the church lawn.

After a general good time the party drove back to Winston reaching home about 9:30.

Those who enjoyed this delightful occasion were:

Miss Margaret Hanes and Mr. Agnew Bahnson; Miss Swift and Mr. Peter Wilson, Miss Fluehart and Mr. Robert
Gorrell; Miss Lucy Lybrook and Mr. George Patterson; Messrs. Tom Tyack and Wilson Gray.

Mr. and Mrs. P.H. Hanes acted as chaperones on this delightful occasion.

Miss Sarah Cowles is the guest of her cousin, Mrs. H.V. Horton, on Spruce street.

Invitations were issued this morning by Mrs. T.L. Vaugh who entertains on Wednesday, May 2 in honor of her
daughter, Mrs. Horace M. Dubose of Nashville, Tenn.
