***Solomon Blackburn is tied to all those Blackburns connected with EA Neuman Blackburn, Ambrose Blackburn, Augustine Blackburn, etc.
Soloman may be related to "Little" Franke Blackburn b. c. 1755 who is , in turn, likely related to Peter Oliver. Franke was in the poorhouse in
Germanton in 1850 (age 96)after she was sold to Henry Shore. Shore emancipated Franke in his will in 1839 but he did not die for another 20 years.
Solomon married Edith Dicks c. 1838 and I have found four children of theirs thus far. I feel certain there are others.
One son, Fred, had a child with Polly Rominger Blackburn, Henry Thomas' great grandmother. That child, Clara, is buried at Wesley Chapel on
Hampton Road. Clara and Henry Crews had at least three children that I have not brought forward yet. Information provided by Mel White
OBITUARIES FOUND IN THE PEOPLES PRESS. Check paper for complete obituary. On microfilm at NC Room, Central Library, Winston-Salem, NC
**STROUPE, Mr. ______, for years an inmate of the county poorhouse, last week (PP Apr 10, 1873)
*Longworth, Vincent, aged 68, an inmate of the county poor house May 14, 1874 (PP May 21, 1874)
1870- The Poorhouse is located three miles from the county seat. There are two buildings of brick; one, 20x40 feet and the other 20x60 feet, with
four cabins, a barn, and a smokehouse. There are four rooms in one of the brick houses, and three in the other. The premises are well arranged,
but somewhat out of repair. The buildings are well protected by shade trees. The supply of water comes from a well and pump, and fireplaces are
used to heat the buildings. There is no restriction on food. The average weekly cost of each inmate is about $1.50. There are 90 acres of tolerably
poor land, 16 of which are in cultivation. Corn, oats, potatoes, and garden vegetables are raised and used in support of the inmates. Ashes and
manure are used in improving the land. The overseer is Mr. R. L. Tally. His salary is a hundred dollars per year. Dr. A. T. Zevely is the physician.
He has no stated salary, but gets paid according to the services rendered.
