PARISH, WM Funeral preached Dec. 15, 1861 at Muddy Creek. He was the husband of Br. Reuben Bruer's daughter. He enlisted as a soldier, and went to Manassas where he subsequently died.
April 2, 1885- The Republican, Winston, NC Died, Dr. J.K. Pepper, formerly of Danbury, Stokes County, but of late years an inmate of the Morganton Insane Asylum, died at that institution on Friday last. Rev. T.H. Pegram of this city, was called to preach the funeral at Kernersville on Saturday evening, where the remains were interred.

Nov. 20, 1907--Charlotte Daily Observer-- Winston-Salem, Nov. 9 - Mr. William G. Potts, who has been seriously ill for a month, died at 5:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon at his home on Liberty street. He underwent an operation about a week ago and it was thought that he would recover, but a few days ago he took a change for the worse and gradually grew worse until the end. Mr. Potts was 53 years old. The funeral services were held from the late residence at 3 o'clock this afternoon, conducted by Rev. Dr. H.A. Brown, pastor of the First Baptist church.
July 6, 1919 Winston-Salem Journal Mr. Otis C. Parker, aged 27 years, died last night at 8 o'clock at the City Hospital after an illness of two weeks with a complication of diseases. He had been in the hospital for the past week. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L.D. Parker, his wife and three children. The funeral service will be conducted this afternoon at 4 o'clock at the home of his father in Southside by Rev. C.E. Romig and Rev. Edmund Schwarze. Internment will be in Salem Cemetery.

Mrs. Jane Minerva Parker, 64, died suddenly last night at her home, 1624 East First Street, at 9:30 o'clock following an illness of only a few minutes. She was taken ill and passed away before a physician could be summoned. She was born October 20, 1864, in Yadkin County, a daughter of Jacob Caudle and Nancy Gough and was the widow of L.D. Parker. She had made her home in this city for the past 30 years, coming here from Yadkin County. She was a member of Enon Baptist Church of Enon and was well known, having a large circle of friends. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. G.P. Carter, Mrs. J.W. English, and Mrs. P.D. Spainhour; two sons, D.A. Parker and C.M. Parker, of Winston-Salem; three sisters, Mrs John Reece, of Rockford; Mrs. J.I. Cline and Mrs Jesse Clodfelter, of Winston-Salem, and eighteen grandchildren. Funeral arrangements had not been completed last night.

June 30, 1939-[WSJ] E.A. PIERCE'S FUNERAL IS SET FOR TODAY AT 4 Funeral services for Eusebius A. (Sebe) Pierce, 72 year old tobacco pioneer of Winston-Salem will be held this afternoon at 4 o'clock from his home 1523 West First street. He died at a local hospital yesterday. Mr. Pierce retired 14 years ago from service with the Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company. He had been connected with Lockett and Vaughn Company, Bitting and Hay, T. L. Vaughn and Company, the F.M. Bohannon Tobacco Company and the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company before he became associated with the Brown and Williamson Company His father, James R. Pierce, operated one of the first tobacco warehouses in this section of the state under the name of Pace and Pierce. Mr. Pierce was a native of Pelham and came here 51 years ago from Danville, VA He is survived by one son, J.P. Pierce and one daughter, Mrs. F.M. Fisher and five grandchilrden. Dr. Ralph Herring, Rev. Fred N. Day and Rev. S.F. Morton will be in charge of the funeral services this afternoon. Burial will be in Forsyth Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be: I.J. Miller, J.E. Stallings, D.W. Stewart, William Schalter, Hollis Sink and J.N. Tucker.

PILCHER'S FUNERAL SERVICES TO BE HELD TODAY Funeral services for Thomas William Pilcher, 74, 619 Granville Drive, who died at a local hospital at 5:15 o'clock yesterday morning, will be held at the home at 4 o'clock and at Salem Baptist Church at 4:30 this afternoon. Rev. Charles H. Stevens and Rev. Vernon Graf will be in charge. Burial will be in Forsyth Memorial park. Pallbearers will be J.W. Jones, R.R. Zimmerman, R.B. Burton, M.D. Gant, N.F. Copley and E.W. Rule. Mr. Pilcher was born at East Bend, May 26, 1865, the son of Alvis and Millie Phillips Pilcher. He lived in Winston-Salem the past 34 years and was employed by R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company until he retired seven years ago. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church. Survivors include the widow, who before marriage was Miss Nancy Ann Knott; two daughters, Mrs. J.A. Saunders and Mrs. R.E. Bennett; two foster daughters, Miss Lucile Jackson and Mrs. Elvin Jackson Pfaff; nine grandchilren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, William Pilcher, Angola, Inc.

C.M. Parker Funeral Rites Will Be Today
Funeral for Charles Marvin Parker, 40, building contractor, who died Tuesday morning at his home on the Greensboro highway, Route 3, will be conducted at the home this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock by Arthur Myers lay minister, Rev. Moody Nifong, and Rev. Mr. Thompson, of Crews Methodist Church. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery. Pall Bearers will be Julius Caudle, Tom Caudle, W.D. Arrington, Luther Ayers, Carl Spainhour, and Paul Shermer.
Mr. Parker had been ill for the past eight years, but despite his illness had carried on his work from his bedside and viewed the completion of his various projects from an ambulance. Recently, however, his condition grew worse, and for the past seven weeks members of the Winston-Salem rescue squad had joined in administering oxygen by which it was hoped to overcome the force of disease. Mr. Parker was born in Yadkin County August 13, 1899, but since boyhood had been a resident of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County. He was the son of L.D. and Janie Caudle Parker.
He was married three times, the first time in 1916 to Miss Viola Whisenhunt, who died in 1922. He then married Miss Phoebe Spainhour in 1924 and she died in 1933. He was married in 1935 to Mrs. Phoebe Smith Blair, who survives.
Surviving also are four daughters, Miss Gloria Ann, Margo Jane, and Faith Parker and Mrs. Mabel Parker Clark; two sons, Nelson and Marvin Parker Jr. ; three step children, Cornelius Blair, Mary Ellen Blair and Wilma Jean Blair, one brother, D.A. Parker, of Winston-Salem; three sisters, Mrs. J.W. English, Mrs. P.D. Spainhour and Mrs. G.P. Carter, all of Winston-Salem.

D.A. PARKER, 57, OF ROUTE 5, FUNERAL TODAY
Funeral services for Daniel Austin Parker, 57, of Winston-Salem, Route 5, who died at his home at 7:15 a.m. yesterday, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wallburg Baptist Church. The Rev. J.A.Penticost, the Rev. W.N. Brookshire and the Rev. E.F.Baker will officiate. The body will lie in state at the church for one-half hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the church cemetary. The body will be returned to the home at 10 a.m. today. Mr. Parker was born July 15, `1895 in Yadkin County, near East Bend, a son of L.D. and Manerva Jane Caudle Parker. He moved to Winston-Salem in 1903 and for a number of years was a barber. For the past 18 years he had been a partner in the Parker Auto Parts Company. He was a member of Wallburg Baptist Church. He was married on Dec. 24, 1913 to Miss Ethel May Grimes, who survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Mrs. A.F. Yokely of Winston-Salem, Route 5; one son, Allen A. Parker of Winston-Salem, Route 5; two sisters, Mrs. J.W. English and Mrs. D.O.Spainhour of Winston-Salem.

Mrs. Mabel Parker Clark, 76, wife of Amos Clark, died Saturday, May 27, 1995, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was happily married for58 years and dedicated her life to her husband, children, and grandchildren. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Highland Presbyterian Homemaker's Club and a volunteer at the Enrichment Center. She and her husband, Amos, especially enjoyed their retirement years together and kept busy with their flowers, garden, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She is survived by her husband; her sister, Faith Robbins; four children, Amos Clark, Jr., David Clark, Suzanne Clark, and Steve Clark; nine grandchildren, David Clark, Jr., Jeff Clark, Kenny Clark, Sandy Clark, Alex Boyd, Travis Boyd Nicholas Boyd, Elizabeth Clark; and four great grand children, Fallon Clark, Noah Clark, Maighan Clark and Amos Clark IV. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel by Dr. Max Deal. Thefamily will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. FEB. 5, 1998 - [WSJ] Clifton Edward Pleasants of 1244 Arbor Road, Winston-Salem, N.C., died Thursday, February 5, 1998, at the age of 87. Mr. Pleasants was born September 4, 1910 in Greensboro, N.C., the son of Lida Cozart Thomas Pleasants and Edward Oliver Pleasants. After graduating from R.J. Reynolds High School in 1927, he attended the University of North Carolina, Class of 1931. He thereafter enjoyed a long career as a merchant in the family hardware business, retiring in 1981 as Chairman and President of Pleasants Hardware Company. Mr. Pleasants believed early in his business career that community service was not only good for the community, but also good for business. Accordingly, he set a fine example for his family and work associates by serving on the Salvation Army Board as Chairman, Fund Drive Leader, Life Member and recipient of the coveted ''Others'' award; on the Brevard College Board of Trustees; Centenary United Methodist Church as a life long member and Chairman of the Official Board; in the membership of the Wilson Library Fellows of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; the Rotary Club of Winston-Salem as a member of the 75th anniversary history book advisory committee and a Paul Harris Fellow; the City-County Planning Board 1966-1974; the Goodwill Industries Board of Directors; the Greater Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors; the United Way as Chairman of the Budget Committee; and the Winston-Salem Retail Merchants Association as Chairman of the Board of Directors. His business board affiliations included First Federal Savings and Loan, serving a long tenure as Chairman, and the Winston-Salem Board of Wachovia Bank and Trust Company from 1947 to 1981. Mr. Pleasants was a member of Old Town and Forsyth Country Clubs, as well as the Twin City Club. Those who knew Cliff Pleasants will agree that he enthusiastically enjoyed life and personified this anonymous quote, ''Enthusiasm is a contagion that laughs at quarantine and inoculates all who come in contact with it.'' He is survived by his wife, Ruth Myers Pleasants; a son, C. Edward Pleasants, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Nancy T. Pleasants; a daughter, Emily Plesants Smith and son-in-law, A. Zachary Smith, III of Charlotte, N.C.; four granddaughters, Emily Pleasants Sternberg and her husband, Scott F. Sternberg of New York City, Mary Myers Pleasants of Chapel Hill, Shelton Pleasants Smith of New York City, and Lindsay Myers Smith of Cambridge, Mass. Memorials may be sent to Centenary United Methodist Church or to the charity or educational institution of the donor's choice. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday, February 6, 1998 at the Arbor Acres Fellowship Hall, 1244 Arbor Road in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Faith Helen Parker Robbins, 71, of 125 Cloister Oaks, died Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House. Mrs. Robbins was born August 15, 1926 in Winston-Salem. She was a homemaker and a member of Pisgah United Methodist Church. Mrs Robbins was preceded in death by her husband, Jay George Robbins in 1978. Surviving are one daughter, Brenda Raker and her husband, Jerry; two sons, Mark Daniel Robbins and Brad Robbins and his wife, Tonya, all of Winston-Salem; one brother, Marvin Parker of Fayetteville; four grandchildren. The funeral will be held Friday, March 26, 1999, at 2:00 p.m. in the Pisgah United Methodist Church in Kernersville by Rev. Lee Money. Internment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday.
