MILLER,  LUCINDA BELL
, born Mar. 18, 1858, to Jonathan Miller and Mary mn Wood.  Died Feb 4, 1863.  She is believed to have died from effects of poison.

MILLER, EDWARD WISEMAN, born Aug. 12, 1855 to Jonathan Miller and Mary mn Wood.  Died Feb 6, 1863.  Also supposed to have been poisoned.

MILLER, MARY mn Wood, born Feb. 20, 1829.  Married Aug 8, 1849 to Jonathan Miller.  Died Feb. 11, 1863.  She as well as her children are believed to have died from the
effects of poison, administered, as was supposed, by the black woman.

MILLER, NANCY AMANDA born May 10, 1850, to Jonathan Miller and Mary mn Wood.  Died Feb. 27, 1863.  She was the last victim of that terrible disease which carried off the
above named persons.  From the fact that the disease corresponded perfectly with the symptoms laid down in medical works under the head of Belladonna, it is supposed that
they were poisoned by a preparation of its roots, etc.

McBRIDE, NANCY MARGARET mn Kinnick, born Dec. 27 1829.  Married to John McBride.  Died Feb 13, 1863.  She is said to have died of the same disease as Sr. Miller
and her children.

Norfleet Camp Confederate Veterans, January 10, 1899: With profound grief we are again called upon to chronicle the death of one of our most beloved comrades, Henry E.
McIver, a soldier who served in the 21st Regiment of N C troops, died on the 9th instant, at his home in Salem. We knew him well. He was a faithful soldier, a good citizen, a firm
friend, a kind and thoughtful neighbor, an unselfish member of society and an honest man.  We mourn his loss. His place in our ranks must remain vacant for we have no one
left to fill it. We tender our deepest sympathy to his bereaved family.C.B. Watson, S. H. Smith, Z.T. Bynum....Committee.

MENDEL WILL HAVE MILITARY FUNERAL
Body of Spanish War Veteran to be Interred Sunday Afternoon

Funeral services for
Millard F. Mendel, 47, who died suddenly Sunday night at his rooming house, 622 North Liberty stret, will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at
Bodenheimer Funeral Home.  D.V. Carter, commander of the local camp of Spanish War Veterans, and
Samuel J. Reich, chaplain of the local and state organizations, will
conduct the funeral which will be a military one.  Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery, west of Reynolda and
will be the first body to be interred there.

A firing squad from Co. G, 120th infantry, under the command of Captain Walter B. Williams, will assist in the funeral.  The local camp of Spanish War Veterans claimed the
body after it was learned that Mendel's wife,
Mrs. Maisie Mendel, Hedgesville, Rout 1, W. VA, informed Commander Carter that she was financially unable to give it the proper
burial.  Mendel came to this city November 1.  Relatives were located through papers of his used in obtaining a pension from the government for his service during the
Spanish-
American War.

April 7, 1938-[ WSJ] HENRY MARTIN BURIED TODAY

Final tribute was paid this afternoon at the first Baptist Church for Henry Brown Martin, for many years city editor of the Twin City Sentinel.  The service was conducted by Dr.
Ralph Herring and Dr. D.H. Wilcox.  Burial was in the Forsyth Memorial Park.
Newspaper employees who have worked with Mr. Martin, some of them for many years, occupied a reserved section of the church, assembling a few moments before the hour
for the funeral.  Mr. Martin passed away yesterday  morning at his home on Robin Hood Road.  He had been ill for ten days, serious all of the time.

Dec. 30, 1939- [WSJ] - DEATH CLAIMS MRS. MARTIN
Mrs. Cora M. Martin,
69, wll known Southside resident, died at her home, 333 East Sprague Street, yesterday afternoon at 3:45 o'clock after a serious illness of two weeks.  
She had been in declining health for some time.  She was the wife of
P.A. Martin, who is connected with Brown-Williamson Tobacco Company. Mrs. Martin was born October 19,
1870, and had spent her entire life in Winston-Salem and Forsyth county.  Surviving in addition to her husband are one daughter,
Mrs. Beulah Martin Whitaker, of Winston-
Salem, and one son,
Allan C. Martin, also of Winston-Salem. Funeral service will be held at the home Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, in charge of Rev. W. Wilbur Hutchins.  
Burial will be in Forsyth Memorial Park..

MRS. A.A. MILLER: The funeral for Mrs. Primmie Bennett Miller, 65, of 26 E. Banner Avenue, widow of Amos A. Miller, will be conducted at 2 pm today at Vogler's Chapel
by the Rev. C.C. Vaughan.

Burial will be in Forsyth Memorial Park. Grandsons and nephews will be pallbearers. Mrs. Miller died Sunday at City Hospital.

Mrs. Miller was born Feb. 4, 1895 in Stokes County, a daughter of
John William and Laura Smith Bennett. She moved to Winston-Salem from Stokes County in 1942. Her
husband died in December 1935. Mrs. Miller was a member of Rosebud Christian Church.

Surviving are two sons, Fred C. Miller of 4472 N.Hampton Drive and Ernest C. Miller of Norfolk, VA; three daughters, Miss Nellie Mae Miller and Mrs. Louise Harrell, both of the
home, and Mrs. Barbara Duggins of 4712 Starmount Drive; a foster daughter, Mrs. Coy Matthews of Kernersville,; three sisters, Mrs.Mamie Corn of Winston-Salem, Mrs. Annie
Laurie Cope of Advance and Mrs. Nellie Cannon of Morganton; three brothers, J.R. Bennett of Lewisville, L.B. Bennett of Inglewood, Calif., and E.C. Bennett of Fernley, Nev.;
one stepdaughter Mrs. W.L. Chappell of Winston-Salem, ; three stepsons, G.E. Miller of Helen Avenue, J.M. Miller of Baux Mountain Road and Albert A. Miller of Walnut Cove;
and nine grandchildren.

May 13, 1938-[WSJ]-  ILLNESS FATAL TO MRS. MARTIN

Mrs. Lillian Mock Martin
died this morning at a local hospital at 5:25 o'clock.  She had been in declining health six weeks, critical two weeks.
She was born January 28, 1880, in Forsyth county, near New Philadelphia Moravian Church, and has lived in this city and county all of her life, and was a member of the First
Methodist Protestant Church.  She was the daughter of
Alex B. and Louise Rominger Mock.
In March 1904, she married
V.W. Martin, who is president of V.W. Martin and Sons Company.
Survivors include the  husband; one son, W.E. Martin of this city; two daughters,
Mrs. W.F. Farrell Jr., Winston-Salem, and Mrs. B.D. Graham, Louisville, KY; one grandchild,
Shirley Ann Graham
;  three brothers, William Mock of Rural Hall;
C.J. Mock, of Fayetteville, and Jesse J. Mock of this city; one half-brother, C.C. Mock, Route 2; one sister,
Mrs. Sarah Mock, this city; four half-sisters, Mrs. C.L. Ray and Mrs. E.F. Pfaff, Route 2;  Mrs. Henry Miller of Hanes and Mrs. Cost Robertson, Route 2.  Burial will be in
Forsyth Memorial Park.

March 26, 1939 [WSJ]- W.T. MYERS' FUNERAL RITES SET FOR TODAY
Funeral services for William Thomas Myers, 63, who died suddenly at his home, 2005 Buena Vista Road, Friday night, will be held this afternoon. The body will lie in state at
First Baptist Church from 2:30 to 4 o'clock.  The service will be held at 4 o'clock.  Dr. Ralph Herring will be in charge.  Burial will be in the family plot in Forsyth Memorial Park.

Mrs. Martha Leanna Myers
, 97, of 3368 Transou  Road, Pfafftown, N.C. passed away February 7, 1998 at  Forsyth Memorial Hospital. She was the widow of Hubert Grady  
Myers, Sr
. who died October 17, 1947. Her parents were  George Follett Wilson and Ella Francesca Spach Wilson, both deceased. She was preceded in death by her
youngest son,
Hubert Grady Myers, Jr. on September 3, 1948; two brothers, Virgil A. Wilson of Rural Hall, George Harold Wilson of  Germanton and a sister, Sadie
Follett Wilson,
of Pfafftown. Mrs. Myers was born on September 28, 1900 in Pfafftown and lived there all her many years. She graduated from Bethania High School Class of
1920 and was valedictorian of her class. She taught school for one year at Bethania High School. Her talents  were many. She was known for her needlework, sewing, baking of
bread and sugarcake. She taught piano to many young people of the community. At the age of 65, she took on a new joy of painting with oil many pictures from memory from her
youth. She was one of the oldest members of Pfafftown Christian Church and was active as long as her health permitted. She was the last living granchild of her beloved
grandfather,
Rev. Virgil Angelo Wilson, who was the founder and minister of the Pfafftown Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Martha
(Robert J.) Lilly
, of 715 Engleman Ave., Burlington, N.C.; a son, George W. (Ruth Vanhoy) Myers, of the home; six grandchildren, Jeanne L. Griswold, Kingsport, TN,

Pfafftown Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, February 9, 1998 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel and also at the  home. Memorials may be

Mrs. Atha Leinback Miller age 97 of Winston-Salem, NC, died Sunday, June 22, 2008 at Clemmons Nursing and Rehab Center. Mrs. Miller was born in Winston-Salem on
November 14, 1910 to Charles Luther Leinback and Amelia Elizabeth Hanes. She was a devoted member of Fairview Moravian Church since 1934; belonged to the Clair V.
Warren Sunday School Class, and the Weber Memorial Sunday School Class, she taught Primary Sunday School Class for 28 years, she sang in the choir until 1965, she
belonged to Senior Friends and Women Fellowship Circle # 6.
Preceded in death by Melvin, Roscoe and Fred Ray Leinback, Beulah Ivester, Opal Reed, Eunice Sprinkle, Lucille Ring, Hazel Pinnix and Eula Mae Leinback. She is survived by
her daughter Mrs. Sandra B. Goforth and husband John of Winston-Salem. Several Nieces and Nephews.  Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at 10:00 AM
at Fairview Moravian Church with Rev. Riddick Weber officiating. Burial will follow at Salem Moravian Graveyard. The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 7:00 until 9:00
pm at Salem Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Fairview Moravian Church.
