Grover, the 6 year old boy of Rev. E. F. Hinson, was kicked by a mule in the face Saturday evening. He is in a
very critical condition....We can’t get much wood on subscription, scarcely any money, but we have the promise
of a bushel of pop corn in a few days and hope we can keep things “poppin” while it lasts....Mrs. Henry
Waggoner is very low with pneumonia....Miss Rosa West of Salem, who has been visiting friends and relatives
here, has returned home. Waggoner’s pet owl carried away his knife Saturday evening and Sunday morning
the owl came back to bring back his knife...Mr. J. D. York killed some nice hogs Monday, one weighed 375,
another 376....There has been 6853 pounds of pork killed in Elkin during the past week. H. F. Boney has the
prize so far, his weighing 411 pounds with E. D. Harris a close second, who killed a 11 months pig which
weighted 409 pounds, James Madison had one of 385 pounds, B. Woodruff one 353 pounds, Jeff
Welborn....Mr. R. L. Poindexter is chief butcher---Elkin Times.
Wilkesboro Hustler:-- While hunting turkeys, John Hutchinson, was going through the woods when in some
manner his gun was discharged and the entire load tore through his right foot. He was about three miles from
his home, but his cries attracted the attention of a colored man who came to his rescue...On Thursday, Mr.
Joshua Dowell, who lives near Moravia Falls, had the misfortune of losing his house and contents by fire...At
Fairplains, the widow of Dan Morgan, who is a respected colored woman, lost her house by fire...Clarence Call
and A. L. Combs have purchased the stock of clothing in Wilkesboro formerly owned by Mrs. Hix, now Mrs.
Doughton...A dog in the show window at F. D. Foster’s played smash with a lost of glass and China ware.
Wm. F. Billings and Miss Docia Blackburn were married Sunday....Mr. Foote Davis, of Alexander county,
was standing in front of his team when a gust of win lifted his wagon bed off. This frightened the team and they
ran over him, one of the mules stepping on his leg and made an ugly wound. He was knocked down and when
the wagon passed over him the front wheel struck him just about the right eye cutting an ugly gash in his
forehead.
High Point Citizen--
B. F. Perrow, of Va., was in town last week and told The Citizen that he was thinking of putting up an ice plant
here in time to supply the next summer’s trade...The High Point postoffice, since its recent remodeling, will
compare favorably with the postoffices in many very much larger cities....Miss Jones, of Salem, sister of Dr. W.
O Jones, of the city, has moved here and will live with her brother in the future....The three-year old daughter of
Dennis Kennedy, who was burned Thursday, died Friday and was buried Sunday at Mt. Pleasant.
