"Jim" Tesh, a white man, about 45 years, died in the Hospital yesterday morning after suffering for
twenty four hours from wounds received in a very mysterious manner on Saturday night.
Tesh was found Sunday morning about 10 o'clock lying on the ground in the barn of Joe Masten,
near Fairview. An examination revealed the fact that his skull had been fractured and he was
suffering from other injuries. He was carried to the Hospital and Dr. Bynum was called, but he was
beyond assistance and soon succumbed.
Coroner Dicks was notified and he summoned a jury and began an investigation, but adjourned last
evening until nine o'clock this morning when he and the jury, and Clement Manly, Esq., who is
representing the State, will visit the scene of the tragedy. It is believed by some that Tesh, who had
been drinking, fell out of Masten's hay loft and sustained the injuries from which he died. Others,
however, insist that t his is impossible and that the luckless man was killed. Hyatt Crews who was
with Tesh Saturday night and very likely at the time, has been arrested on suspicion and is still in
jail. Tesh will be buried at Zeiglar's grave yard at four o'clock this evening.
