FEB. 24, 1860
DIED:

In Waughtown, on Tuesday evening the 14th inst., Dr. Evander McIver, in the 65th year of his age.  The deceased was a man of generous
impulses, a
noble and an affectionate heart.  In his death, not only the town in which he lived and the circle of friends immediately around him, but the entire
community has sustained an irreparable loss.  In the pursuit of the profession which for many years he has followed, death overtook him.  He left
his
home in the town of Clemmonsville, Davidson County, the day previous to his death, in usual health and vigor, to visit a patient in Waughtown
from
whence he was called to meet the grim monster, death.  It may be said of Dr. McIver, that he died at his post.  Taking his whole life together, few
men
ever live of more genuineness of character, or sterling worth.  He was a faithful Physician, a devout Christian, a true and an unyielding friend.
The writer
of this entertains no doubt but that he is now in the enjoyments of the falicities of the upper and the better world.  May God be merciful unto his
bereaved family!   A FRIEND.  Winston, Feb. 24, 1860

On Sunday evening the 19th inst., Mrs. Theresa Leinbach, wife of T.Leinbach, of Salem, NC.  Her faith  had long been tried by acute pains and
sufferings, and like refused gold had been found true and unalloid.  And when compelled to leave us, to seek relieve in a distant city, she went in
trustful
reliance on an all merciful and all powerful Providence.  Tho' she was denied almost all that is expressed by that form of Oriential Benedicition,
"May you
die among your kindred," yet she departed in the full assurance of faith; and her remains now rest in the beautiful graveyard at bethlehem, her
native
place; among her kindred and friends.  Her husband has lost in  her a devoted wife; her children a tender, affectionate Mother; her neighbors a
sympathizing friend; and the poor an active benefactor.  Her mission of love and duty has been most nobly, and faithfully performed.

DIED in Henry County, Indiana, on the 3d of February, Mrs. Rachel, wife of Joel Adams, formerly of N. Carolina, i the 50th year of her age.  The
deceased left NC  the 27th of September last, from which time she had been perpetually lingering, until she is no more.  Her death, although sad
in
nature, was one of great consolation.  A short time before she expired she exorted her family to 'weep not for her, but for themselves."  Her
language
was logical, eloquent and sublime, which spoke of ?? beyond the dreary tomb.

On the 1st inst., in the town of Rockford, Surry Co., Mrs. Jemima Kile (well known as "Aunt Mimy} aged 72 years.  The deceased has long been a

who filled
the three-fold character of a pure christian, a king neighbor and an affectionate mother in the community of which she was so brilliant an
ornament.  She
was universally respected, and her many virtues will forever cleave to the memories of those who knew her.  Our loss seemed irreparable and
our grief
is one solaced by the words of Him who sayeth, "Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God."

Our hearts are made sad by the visitation of God's providence in removing from our midst one of our dearest friends on earth.  Margaret Dawson,
consort of Newton C. Dawson, and daughter of Geo. Fulp, Sen., died in this county near Old Town on the 4th inst, aged 58 years, 10 months and
14
days.  The deceased has left to mourn her loss, besides her tender and loving husband, three sons and one daughter, with brothers, sisters,
and a
large circle of relatives and friends.  She had been suffering with a disease of the heart for a long time, but was not entirely confined to her bed
until
about two  months before her death.  He disease finally terminated with dropsy.  All the aid that mortals could give was bestowed upon the
sufferer, but
Death had come for his victim, and no  human skill could stay the hand of the insatiable monster.  She meekly bowed her head, and passed the
valley of
the shadow of death to be transplanted into Paradise, there unfading, to bloom forever.

For a number of years the deceased has been a faithful and constant member of the M.P. Church.  During her illness she delighed to converse
with the
people of God and expressed her willingness to yield at all times to His will, and to depart and be with Christ if He chose to take her to Himself.
During
the last few hours of her existence she became speechless, and the last words she articulated as her tongue was becoming palsied with death
was "I am
bound for Heaven and immortal glory."

"Truly, blessed are they that trust in the Lord.  Le me die the death of the righteous, and may my end be like theirs.  Old Town, Feb'y 4, 1861
